From Aspiring Specialist to Renal Medicine Expert: A Journey of Growth
Napoleon Akolgo, a dedicated nurse from Ghana, embarked on a transformative journey in renal medicine, completing his Renal Medicine MSc with Learna | Diploma MSc. Coming from a background where specialisation opportunities were limited, Napoleon seized the chance to deepen his expertise upon moving to the UK.
One of the most impactful aspects of the programme for Napoleon was its diversity and inclusivity.
Napoleon said: "I’m a nurse, and there were only a few of us among consultants, medical doctors, and specialists, but everyone in the team was respected equally. The opportunity to engage with professionals from different parts of the world was invaluable."
His academic growth had an immediate effect on his professional life.
"This course has really helped me establish myself in renal medicine. I’ve noticed that my contributions in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings are now more advanced and evidence-based. In fact, even before I graduated, I received a promotion. If I hadn’t studied renal medicine, I wouldn’t have had that opportunity."
The digital learning experience at Learna played a key role in Napoleon’s success.
"Even though it’s an online programme, Learna made it feel like a real classroom—very interactive, with easy access to lecturers and strong student support." The flexibility of the course structure also allowed him to balance his studies with professional responsibilities.
Napoleon has become a passionate advocate for Learna, already inspiring several colleagues to enroll.
"If you have a dream and want to make it a reality, Learna is the place to do it. The flexibility, especially in terms of fees, makes a huge difference. Unlike traditional universities where you have to pay everything upfront, Learna offers options that allow you to manage both work and studies effectively."
His advice to future students: "Give it your all and embrace the journey. The rewards are well worth it."
